Lewes Hotel Guide

Shelleys Hotel

Shelleys Hotel describes itself as "a country house hotel set in the midst" of lewes and to us that seems about right.

The hotel is set in a beautiful old building which used, like so many Sussex county hotels, to be an old fashioned coaching inn. Facilities are up-to-date and the rooms are well-furnished in a traditional style. Think Homes and Gardens rather than Living etc.

The Shelleys has been awarded 3 stars by the AA.

Pelham House

Lewes is lucky to have so many fine Georgian buildings (and many which are even older too). Pelham House occupies one such treasure - a restored 16th century town house together with attached mews accommodation - enough for 31 comfortable and well-equipped rooms.

Room rates are reasonable for the high standard of accommodation offered. The Hotel also offers a decent restaurant and wedding and conference facilties.

Pelham House is located right in the middel of Lewes in St. Andrews Lane and is convenient for walking to all the main town centre attractions.

Newick House Hotel

Not far from Lewes at Newick is the sumptuous Newick Park Hotel, set in its own large parkland estate and boasting generously-sized rooms with big beds (including four-posters) and attractive decoration.

Although Newick House is only 4 miles from Lewes as the crow flies, it's tucked away, seemingly a long way from anywhere and it's really a destination in its own right.

Prices are, as you might expect, at the higher end of the scale for the area, but the quality of the accommodation matches the prices.
